A morning ponder. Like most of us do, I too feel the need to question the veracity of surveys. By surveys I mean all surveys, including business-related surveys. What is the basis of these surveys? I often hear whispers from a lot of entrepreneurs that all these surveys are fabricated as most of the private sector players and even from the unorganised sector are afraid of sharing data as they fear tax repercussions. I feel first and foremost we need to educate the people on these surveys before they begin, give confidence to data providers that they will not be WITCH HUNTED.
Further, the parameters considered for the survey needs to be disclosed when the surveys are published – Eg: –. What was the base, scale, sample, & sector? It will give the common public and stakeholders a fair idea to debate on it.
Next why I feel the need to question the authenticity of these surveys is that we in the private sector are facing a shortage of manpower in most sectors. Today, we see everyone wants to be part of BPO, FAST MONEY BUT NOT LASTING AS THEY MAKE YOUR EMPLOYABLE LIFE SHORT. THE EMPLOYABILITY IN THIS SECTOR IS MOSTLY IN THE 25-40 AGE GROUP.
Sources close to me say that there is no quality manpower for factories, hotels, manufacturing and the list goes on. We are seeing our villages being abandoned with population migrating to the cities. Are all these people jobless in cities? During the rainy season, the construction workers leave to their villages. Construction industry works with minimum work force as labour force is hard to come by. This type of situation is prevalent in every city as endorsed by many from the business fraternity. No one has considered employments by unorganized / Unidentified sectors which will account to 25%. If there is unemployment, I feel those unemployed are either not willing to work or not willing to relocate.
Is ECONOMIC SLOWDOWN the cause of UNEMPLOYMENT OR IS IT THE DESIRE OF EMPLOYEES TO WORK IN WHAT THEY LIKE IS THE CAUSE OF UNEMPLOYMENT?
IS OUR PRESENT EDUCATION SYSTEM GOOD ENOUGH TO EQUIP THE YOUTH TO ATTAIN THE RIGHT QUALITY OF EMPLOYABILITY & ALLOW HIM TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT JOB?
FINALLY, IS OUR EMPLOYMENT SURVEY CAPABLE OF INCLUDING THE WORKFORCE EMPLOYED IN THE UNORGANISED SECTOR WHO MAKE THEIR LIVING. For example, DELIVERY BOYS ARE IN GREAT DEMAND TODAY. DELIVERY BOYS TO QUALIFIED SOFTWARE, I KNOW ARE REQUIRED. OUR SURVEY STANDARDS SHOULD CHANGE
