DSC is a Digital Signature Certificate.  This is mandatory for all corporates for filing income tax returns and company’s Act and other statutory related returns.  Also it is mandatory for certain specified category of individuals and applying for government tenders.  The classes of digital signature depending on the purpose are differentiated.

DSC can be applied by any individual for signing or behalf of the company as the authorized person.  DSC is nowadays required for all tax filing purposes, bulk invoice signing, government tenders and wherever digital documents need to be signed.  For procuring DSC, one has to have a passport size photo, PAN card copy, Aadhar card copy.

There are 3 types of DSCs based on usage.

DSC  Class 1:  This class of DSC is mainly for individual/private subscribers for confirmation of user name and e-mail contact details.

DSC2 Class 2:  This class of DSC is usually issued to Directors or authorized signatories of companies for ROC Filing purposes.  This DSC is mandatory for digitally signing documents while filing ROC returns.

DSC3 Class 3:  Class 3 DSCs are mainly for participation in tenders and e-auctions all over India.

It must be noted that from January 1, 2021, Class 2 DSCs will be replaced by Class 3 DSCs.

Documents and details required to be submitted for obtaining DSC are:

·        Aadhar card (clearly visible).

·        PAN card (Clearly visible).

·        Mobile number registered in Aadhar card.

·        One passport size photo.

After uploading these documents, there will be a video recording and video display of the documents required to be completed, which will be OTP driven on the registered mobile.  On successful completion of the above, DSC will be issued.
